Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced that it is releasing generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for advertisers. The announcement came amidst positive quarterly results for Q1 2023. The company beat analyst expectations and posted year-on-year revenue growth for the first time in three quarters. The AI Sandbox will allow advertisers to create alternative copies, generate backgrounds through text prompts, and crop images for Facebook or Instagram ads. This latest move by Meta aims to transform how brands engage with their audiences on social media.

The AI Sandbox offers three main features to advertisers. The first feature lets brands generate different variations of the same copy for different audiences while trying to keep the core message of the ad similar. With this feature, companies can adapt their messaging to specific demographics or locations. The background generation feature makes it easier to create different assets for a campaign. Finally, the image cropping feature helps companies create visuals in different aspect ratios for various mediums, such as social posts, stories, or short videos like Reels.

Meta stated that these features are currently available to select advertisers only. However, the company plans to expand access to more advertisers starting in July of this year. “In July, we will begin gradually expanding access to more advertisers with plans to add some of these features into our products later this year,” said Meta in a blog post.
With this new AI toolset, Meta mainly aims to increase engagement levels for advertisers. It also makes the process of creating and launching ads easier. These features will also help advertisers save time and resources by automating much of the creative process. It could lead to a significant shift in the advertising industry and how companies reach their target audiences.
Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that, while the tech giant has started working on different AI tools, it remained committed to metaverse development. This statement came after Meta’s rebranding from Facebook, which was done to shift its focus towards creating a virtual space where people can interact with each other and digital objects in a more immersive way.
