Google Colaboratory, also known as Google Colab, is a popular web-based platform for coding and data analysis. It is widely used by data scientists, researchers, and developers around the world. It offers free access to powerful computing resources, including GPUs & TPUs, and integrates with popular tools like Jupyter Notebooks & GitHub. Now, Google is adding a new AI-powered coding bot called Codey to Google Colab, which promises to make coding even easier and faster. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting development.

Google has recently added Codey, an AI coding bot, to google colab. Codey can generate code based on your prompt.

What is Codey and How Does it Work?

Codey is an AI-powered coding bot that uses natural language processing (NLP) to generate code based on user input. It has been “fine-tuned” on a large dataset of high-quality code from external sources, making it more accurate and efficient at generating code that works. Moreover, Codey in Colab comes customized especially for Python, and Colab-specific uses.

How to Use Codey in Google Colab?

Generating use-specific codes using Codey is really easy and fast. Just follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Codey button in the notebook toolbar.

Please select the Codey button located in the notebook toolbar and click on it.

  2. Type your text prompt in the dropdown tab.

Enter your text prompt within the dropdown tab provided.

  3. Generate Python code based on the prompt.

Extra Features of Codey in Google Colab

Paid Colab users will also have access to autocomplete suggestions, which can save time and reduce errors when coding. In addition, Google is introducing a “Colab AI” chatbot, accessible from the left sidebar, which lets you ask questions about coding in natural language. For example, you could ask, “How do I import data from Google Sheets?” or “How do I filter a Pandas DataFrame?” and the chatbot will provide you with relevant code snippets and documentation.

When Will Codey be Available?

According to Google, Codey in Colab is rolling out first to paid US subscribers “in the coming months.” However, Google plans to expand it to the free tier, as well as other countries, in the near future. You can also find Codey today in Google Cloud as a preview.

Our Say

Codey promises to be a game-changer for coding productivity and accessibility, especially for beginners and non-experts who may not have the time or expertise to write complex code from scratch. With its powerful AI capabilities and intuitive interface, Codey has the potential to make coding more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
