As a Lead BI System Administrator with Eaton, you will be part of the Enterprise BI Architecture Team, a growing team that manages and maintains the BI environments across Eaton, responsible for process, standards, governance and performance of the shared structures and technical environments. The toolsets includes OBIEE 11g foundation suite, Informatica, DAC, QlikView, Control M etc. This is an individual contributor role responsible for enhancements and maintenance of the BI Platform(s) through primarily applying their extensive OBIEE and Informatica System Administration knowledge in performance monitoring, tuning, patching, upgrades and maintenance of multiple OBIEE and Informatica environments. This person must be open to learn and enjoy new technologies and challenges.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for installation, configuration, patching and upgrade of OBIEE 11g components including Web Logic application server across clustered development, test and production domains
- Installation, configuration, patching and upgrade of Informatica across development, test and production domains
- Installation, configuration, patching and upgrade of the DAC tool across development, test and production domains
- Perform root cause analysis of platform issues
- Performance monitoring, tuning and system management of multiple BI environments
- Monitoring server backup process
- Resolve platform issues independently, quickly, and completely
- Track platform Service Level Agreements
- Partners with the Solution Architect, ETL and OBIEE Teams to identify BI technology opportunities
- Identify and monitor operational and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement
- Participates in benchmarking and comparison to industry standards to evaluate platform opportunities
- Leverages expertise to support the Enterprise BI delivery platform(s)
- Creates, communicates and applies platform governance policies driving standardization and operational efficiencies
- Consults with the Solution Architect to develop, define, and prioritize work and delivery
- Works globally to understand and implement regional and enterprise platform strategies
- Establishes comprehensive quality and testing methodologies for release deliverables and platform modifications, including performance testing approaches
- Document, track, and communicate changes
- Participate in design and development of BI Platform standards
- Collaborate with business and development teams to drive robust BI performance testing methodologies
- Provide proactive direction ensuring a stable and scalable Enterprise BI delivery platform
Qualification and Skills Required
- Requires a 4-year college degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 8+ years of IT experience
- 5+ years of experience in deploying & maintaining of BI platforms, with at least 3 years on the OBIEE platform required
- 5+ years of experience in deploying & maintaining Informatica platforms required
- Expertise with Linux shell scripting
- Expertise working in an Unix environment including infrastructure architecture, hardware sizing, multi-tier platform, servers, and tool based solutions
- Proven expertise working with large data sets and multi-million row very large data base structures
- Expertise with performance tuning methodologies and techniques required
- Experience managing multi-project/release OBIEE environment is required
- Experience upgrading and patching the OBIEE environment is required
- Extensive experience managing multi-tenant data load architecture is required
- Expert knowledge in Exadata database performance tuning including indexing, partitioning, SQL query tuning etc…
- Expert knowledge of BI concepts including ETL, data warehousing, reporting and related tools
- Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) analytical application architecture
- knowledge of ERP systems and the processes/data they support preferred
- Experience with Exalytics, Essbase, Times Ten and Mobility is a plus
- Hands-on experience in designing OBIEE security including integrating with Oracle Access Manager and Identity Manager is a plus
- Experience with Oracle Endeca Discovery is a plus
- Experience with QlikView is a plus
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Reports to the Technical BI Manager at EITC
- Has working relationship with the all aspects of the Corporate IT teams, Business IT peer groups, and the customer community
- Has regular contact with outside vendors and contractors/consultants for additional support as needed
- Develops relationships with professional organizations, user groups, and industry trade groups to stay current with technology
- Expected to help establish standards and best practices for system monitoring and administration, including metrics development and tracking
- Effective intrapersonal and communications skills
- Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups, managers, and subject matter experts
- Ability to be self-motivated, independent and resourceful
- Work independently with minimal supervision
