GPT-4 Training Parameters Revealed

In his speech, Huang discussed clustering as one of the solutions to the GPU size crunch. He explained, that since training on a single GPU would take a thousand years, Nvidia figured out a way to lash thousands of GPUs together over fast NVLink networks to make the cluster function as one. As part of his explanation or a slip of the tongue, he mentioned that the latest state-of-the-art AI model, GPT-4, has about 1.8 trillion parameters, which required several trillion tokens to go train.

Introducing GR00T

Another significant advancement showcased at Nvidia’s GTC AI Conference is the introduction of GR00T, Nvidia’s Project Group’s versatile foundation model for humanoid robot learning. This innovative model, GR00T, leverages multimodal instructions and past interactions to generate the next action for robots to execute autonomously.

To facilitate its development, Nvidia has rolled out several supporting tools, including Isaac Lab for robot learning applications trained on Omniverse Isaac Sim, and Osmo, a novel compute orchestration service coordinating workflows across DGX systems for training and OVX systems for simulation. With GR00T, Nvidia is paving the way for the next generation of AI-powered robotics. It enables robots to learn from minimal human demonstrations and emulate human movements with remarkable intelligence and efficiency.
