China’s aim of winning the AI race strengthens after the release of Tencent’s new model Hunyuan-T1. From the early looks and benchmarks it looks better than DeepSeek R1 and OpenAI’s GPT 4.5. The model boasts an impressive generation speed of 60-80 tokens per second, surpassing GPT-4.5 and DeepSeek R1 in performance. It features ultra-large-scale reasoning capabilities and utilizes a Hybrid-Mamba-Transformer MoE architecture, which enhances its logical reasoning and ensures concise, high-quality output. Let’s learn more about Hunyuan-T1.
Tencent’s Hunyuan-T1 combines advanced architectural innovations with specialized reasoning capabilities to tackle complex problem-solving tasks. As the primary “slow thinking” model in Tencent’s Hunyuan series, it has set new standards for analytical depth, especially in Chinese-language contexts.
Hunyuan-T1 uses Mixture of Experts (MoE) framework enhanced with Mamba architecture components, achieving what Tencent describes as “lossless integration” of state-space models into large-scale AI systems. The model activates 52 billion parameters through dynamic expert routing, with each specialist module handling specific reasoning domains like mathematical logic or contextual analysis. This architecture enables:
The model’s training regimen incorporates 4.8 trillion tokens of multilingual data, with Chinese content comprising 65% of the corpus17. Key advancements include:

Hunyuan T1 outperforms DeepSeek R1 and GPT 4.5 across most, if not all, of the benchmarks. This suggests that Hunyuan T1 has superior capabilities in tasks measured by these benchmarks, which could include language understanding, reasoning, and problem-solving. The graph provides a visual representation of the comparative strengths of these AI models, highlighting Hunyuan T1’s leading position in this evaluation.
In the MMLU-PRO enhanced evaluation suite, Hunyuan-T1 achieved an 87.2 composite score, trailing only the proprietary o1 model in complex reasoning tasks4. Domain-specific performance highlights include:

Despite its technical advancements, access to Hunyuan-T1 remains a challenge for users outside China. Unlike other Chinese models such as DeepSeek and Kimi, which allow Google logins, Tencent’s platform relies heavily on WeChat and requires a Chinese phone number for registration. This creates a barrier for international users and limits the model’s global accessibility. While Hunyuan-T1 is undoubtedly a promising innovation, its current design and accessibility seem tailored primarily for the Chinese market.
If Tencent addresses these accessibility issues in the future, Hunyuan-T1 could become a more inclusive and widely adopted tool. For now, its potential remains largely confined to users within China. If there are updates or new ways to access the model, I’ll be sure to share them.
